2013 - what a year

Work wise and family life, we bit off a lot this year.  I had many projects and we started our youngest in a montessori school for her in-between year.  Too young for kindergarten and too old for preschool . . . so we found a great school  http://www.montessoriplus.org/  School starts at 9am and ends at 3:30pm - a bit of a problem for working parents . . . so we adjusted our schedules in September.  It's hard to make it work and I look forward to returning to a normal schedule.

At work, we did a Lean project, begun to learn about implementing Lominger competencies and chose an online performance management system to implement in 2014.  Oh yes and we are trying to change the culture for all city employees - Respect - our cultural competency program.
Respect . . . Be More

And we went to Disney World in December.  It was super fun.  My brother and his family and my parents joined us.  We rented a home in the area.  It had a small heated pool and was an easy drive to the parks.  It was a perfect week for all of us.

Updates on my life . . . 2011 - 2012

New Job - April 2012

Wow, it's been awhile since I've posted on my blog.  There are so many things that have changed.  I switched jobs.  This is really good news, as I am back to doing what I love.
I am the Human Resources Director for a city.  Previous to this, I was a manager/director for different types of agencies/divisions.  While I loved making a difference, I always wanted to run a HR department.  So,  I've been doing it for 2 years.  It's been great.  So, what's next on my list of future desires.  I may return to the private sector and then onto a consulting career . . . who knows what the future holds.

Costa Rica - September 2012

We stayed at the Westin Playa Conchal  http://www.westinplayaconchal.com/  The resort is lovely and we would return again.

Day 7 - down 8.2 pounds - Lyn-Genet (The Plan)

Okay, so I had steak last night. It was really good, but I think it is stressing my system. I did lose .4 from yesterday, but I can feel a fullness in my intestines, so something is happening. I can only have red meat 1 a week. This week I will try scallops, wild white fish and back to a little chicken. I think that sounds much better for the week. Oh yeah, I had red wine (merlot) and chocolate last night. Yeah!

Lyn-Genet and The Plan

What to say about this . . . I have been on The Plan for 6 days. I have lost 7.8 pounds in that six days. I've had similar weight loss with HCG, but this was different. It was easier. With HCG, I was only 500 calories and while I wasn't hungry, it was a very boring experience.

On The Plan, I have eaten a LOT of vegetables and a few fruit. Now that I am on Day 6 - I actually like the flax granola that I consume each day. On the second day, I was literally just chewing swallowing to get it over. I discovered on Day 3 - that I wasn't putting in enough milk (plain coconut milk). Once I became generous with milk, the cereal became sweeter and more interesting. It does have dried fruit in it, but I was really tasting slimy flax seeds, which is a joy killer.

The first three days are really a cleanse. They are very similar to the 3 day plan in the More magazine. http://www.more.com/lose-weight-fast-detox-diet
I lost exactly 5 pounds during the first 3 days, which is very cool.

I am really liking this experience. It is hard because I am not eating out or drinking lattes. I must cook (clean and slice vegetables). I had to purchase a new food processor because the one I've owned for 15+ years lost the slicer/shredder blade. The dishes I am cooking or ones that I will eat after the plan. Today, I had broiled steak, mixed green salad with lime agave viniagrette, and sauteed zucchini and onions with parmesan cheese (goat cheese). Outstanding.

I've made carrot ginger soup which was way better than I could imagine. So, the cooking skills are energized with real food instead of brownies/cookies/cakes. Aaah . . . Oh by the way I can have 1 glass of red wine and an ounce of chocolate after day 4. I have and I still lost that day. Awesome.

We'll see if my body reacts to the steak I had today. A reaction would be a weight gain or some other physical change.

It's been a minute

Okay, where have I been. On a journey . . . everyone is older. Rodney is REALLY living in Colorado. I accepted a new job last year and it is wearing me out. Really . . . it's time to do something else.

More to come . . .

On Vacation . . .

What a week! I was off on Friday and I don't return until after the Labor Day Holiday. Yeah!! Unfortunately, my grandmother passed away today. So, I am taking the girls to Alabama for the funeral service. It will be good for them and good for my dad. He will like the fact that the wild children are around. It sort of turns my leisurely week into a different mode, but at least I have several days to get ready. I'd hate to pull this together and go into the office.

I need to check my lottery tickets. : )

I did order this handy little gadget to try with Chloe for the flight. Since my husband is not flying with us, I was really trying to figure out other options beyond the large Britax car seat. This little item is FAA approved. I'm looking forward to using it.
